PHILOSOPHY

Kasturba Nursing College, Sevagram, affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik subscribe to the University of which it is a part but also advocates Gandhian philosophy based on principles and philosophy of Kasturba Health Society,

The faculty believes that nursing is an integral part of the health care delivery system and shares responsibility of working in collaboration with other allied professions for the attainment of optimum health for all members of the society. As an essential health service, nursing includes the prevention of disease, the promotion, restoration and maintenance of optimum health for individuals, families and communities. The concept of comprehensive Nursing besides care during illness is broad in scope & includes therapeutic and educative process in meeting the health needs of the Society.

Nursing is based on values of caring, and aims to help individuals to attain independence in self-care. It necessitates development of compassion and understanding of human behavior amongst its practitioners to provide care with respect and dignity and protect the rights of individuals and groups.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM :

  Undergraduate nursing program is broad based education within an academic framework, specifically directed to the development of critical thinking skills, competencies & standards required for practice of professional nursing and midwifery as envisaged in National Health Policy 2002.

 Under graduate nursing education program prepares its graduates to become exemplary citizen by adhering to code of ethics and professional conduct at all times in fulfilling personal, social and professional obligations so as to respond to national aspirations.

The faculty acknowledges responsibility for organizing a programme of studies for students which provide for the development of specialized knowledge and skills. Education and learning is a process of behavioral changes which are brought about by meaningful experiences within the climate of mutual respect and understanding.

The faculty accepts the responsibility to be role models, create learning environment that enables students to acquire inquiry driven self directed learning and foster life long learning attitude. It also makes provision for the programme to continue development of the student as an individual, citizen and as a professional nurse.

AIMS

  The aim of the undergraduate nursing program is to:

  • Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as professionally competent nurses and midwives at basic level in providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.

  • Prepare nurses who can make independent decisions in nursing situations, protect the rights, facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health and to function in the hospital, community and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor and manager in a clinical / public health setting.

POST GRADUATE PROGRAM :

The faculty believes in the development of post graduate programme in nursing based on the application of principles of modern health sciences, including research which can help in the improvement of quality of nursing education and practice in India. The philosophy of M.Sc. Nursing is incorporated by MUHS as part of Indian Nursing Council.

Faculty believes that:

Post Graduate programme is essential to prepare nurses to improve the quality of nursing education and practice in India. Post graduate programme in nursing builds upon and extends competence acquired at the graduate levels, emphasizes application of relevant theories into nursing practice, education, administration and development of research skills. The programme prepares nurses for leadership position in nursing and health fields who can function as nurse specialists, consultants, educators, administrators and researchers in a wide variety of professional settings in meeting the National priorities and the changing needs of the society. This programme provides the basis for the post masters programme in nursing. Further the programme encourages accountability and commitment to lifelong learning which fosters improvement of quality care.
